Today I'm going to talk about a product that's quite famous among the Korean cosmetics connoisseurs: the OST Original Pure Vitami C20 Serum (to not confuse with the C21.1 Advanced Serum, always by OST, that came out after this one, with a slightly different formulation and that should be more suitable for sensitive skins).
Oggi vi voglio parlare di un prodotto assai famoso tra gli utilizzatori di cosmetici&prodotti per la skincare coreani, l'OST Original Pure Vitamin C20 Serum (da non confondere con il C21.1 Advanced Serum, sempre della OST, uscito dopo questo, che ha una formulazione leggermente diversa e dovrebbe essere adatto per le pelli più sensibili).

Best-selling product of 2012-2013, they say that this is the vitamin C serum with fastest effects -but I can't say nothing on regard, since I've never tried other serums. It surely has a high vitamin C concentration, the 20%, and among the ingredients we can find some moisturizers, like ialuronic acid, but also alcohol.
Prodotto più venduto tra il 2012 e il 2013, si dice che sia il siero alla vitamina C dagli effetti più rapidi -anche se, non avendo io provato altri sieri oltre a questo, non posso pronunciarmi. Ha sicuramente un'alta concentrazione di vitamina C, il 20%, e tra gli ingredienti ci sono anche vari agenti idratanti, come l'acido ialuronico, ma anche dell'alcol.

But what does this thing do? First of all, vitamin C nourishes the skin and has anti-age properties; moreover it brightens the skin and, in high concentrations, does a chemical peeling that helps with skin discolorations and PIH scars. Having some post-pimples/acne scars on my face, that's why I bought it.

Prima di tutto, la vitamina C nutre la pelle ed ha proprietà anti-age; inoltre rende la pelle più luminosa, e usata in alte concentrazioni fa un peeling chimico, andando ad eliminare, o comunque a rendere meno evidenti, le macchie della pelle. Avendo io varie macchie post-brufoli sul viso, l'ho comprato proprio per questa ragione.

It comes in a dark glass bottle, with a pipette which is very useful for the application. The serum has liquid consistency, it smells like orange and it's trasparent, but with time it becomes more yellow, because vitamin C oxidizes in contact with light and air. For this reason, it's recommended to store the bottle in a dark and cold place, so to slow down the oxidation and use up all the product (30ml). I've stored mine in the bathroom cabinet, thinking that winter temperatures would be cold enough, but my serum oxidized after 2 months and I didn't manage to use around 1/3 of product. I read that using vitamin C when oxidized isn't harmful, just ineffective, but honestly I preferred not taking the risk! Next time I buy it, I'll surely store it in my fridge tho.
E' contenuto in una boccetta di vetro scuro, e nella scatola c'è una pompetta per prelevare comodamente il prodotto. Il siero è liquido, sa di arancia ed è trasparente, ma andando avanti nel tempo diventa sempre più giallino, in quanto la vitamina C, a contatto con la luce e con l'aria, tende ad ossidarsi. Per questo motivo è consigliato conservarlo in un luogo buio e fresco, in modo tale da rallentare il processo di ossidazione e riuscire a terminare tutta la boccetta (che contiene 30ml di prodotto). Io l'ho conservato nell'armadietto del bagno, convinta che le temperature invernali fossero abbastanza fresche, ma il siero si è ossidato prima che riuscissi a terminarlo: l'ho usato per due mesi e mi resta circa un terzo di prodotto. Ho letto che usare la vitamina C ossidata non fa male, semplicemente non fa effetto, ma onestamente ho preferito non rischiare! Sicuramente, la prossima volta lo conserverò in frigorifero.

For the first week, I used it only at night, to see my skin's reaction. On the instructions (on the box they're written in Korean, but you can easily find them online) it's written that on the first applications, the skin may sting a little, since it's not used to the vitamin C: personally, my skin stinged only the first 2 times, than nothing. After the first week passed without issues, Iìve started using it day and night, except those times I had little time in the morning to let the skin absorb the serum properly. Anyway, you always need to use sunscreen, since you're using a chemical peeling product. Every time I've only used 2 drops of serum for the whole face, after my toner, and waited 20-30 minutes for it to absorb before using my moisturizer.
Per la prima settimana di utilizzo, l'ho utilizzato solo la sera, per vedere come reagiva la mia pelle. Nelle istruzioni (sulla scatola sono in coreano, ma le trovate facilmente online sui siti da cui può essere acquistato) c'è scritto che le prime volte si potrebbe avvertire un leggero pizzicore, perchè la pelle non è abituata alla vitamina C: io l'ho sentito solo le prime due sere, poi più nulla. Dopo aver visto che non mi aveva dato nessuna reazione strana, ho iniziato a usarlo mattina e sera, a meno che di mattina non dovessi uscire presto, e quindi non avevo il tempo di farlo assorbire per bene. In ogni caso, va sempre usata la protezione solare, dal momento che si sta usando uno scrub chimico. Ogni volta ho usato solo due gocce di siero, dopo il tonico, aspettando una ventina di minuti/mezz'ora prima di mettere la crema idratante, per farlo assorbire bene. 

The pictures of before (left) and after (right) are not the best thing ever, you can't really say much from those. Anyway, after 2 months of usage, my skin was smoother and the pores on my cheeks and nose were smaller and there were less blackheads. About the PIH discolorations, there was an improvement, but nothing huge, maybe because I've only used it for 2 months. The sure thing is that in those months the only pimples I had were the one that I got before my period, and even those were less than my usual and also healed pretty fast.
Le foto del prima (sinistra) e del dopo (destra) non sono il massimo, sia per la luce diversa, sia perchè noto che dalle foto non si capisce granchè. Comunque, dopo due mesi di utilizzo, ho notato che la pelle era più liscia al tatto, e soprattutto che i pori sulla zona naso/guance erano decisamente più piccoli, i punti neri diminuiti. Per quanto riguarda le macchie, ho visto un miglioramento. Non miracoloso, ma può anche essere dovuto al fatto che il siero ha iniziato ad ossidare presto. Quel che è certo è che in quei due mesi gli unici brufoli che mi sono spuntati sono stati quelli prima del ciclo, che comunque sono stati meno del solito e si sono asciugati molto in fretta.

I can say that, even after only 2 months, there were some -not huge- improvements about my discolorations, but, mostly, this serum helped me keeping my skin under control. I prefer not to use this kind of products during spring and summer, but I'll surely repurchase it around october (and I'll store it in the fridge!)

Posso quindi affermare che, anche con solo due mesi di utilizzo, ci sono stati dei miglioramenti -lievi- sul fronte macchie, e soprattutto questo siero mi ha aiutato a tenere sotto controllo la pelle. Preferisco non usare questo genere di prodotti in primavera ed estate, ma sicuramente lo riacquisterò vero ottobre (e lo conserverò in frigo!).
